Power My Shed

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about shed solar kits, installation, and sizing. Can’t find your answer? Contact us.

Do I need to run an extension cord to my shed?
No. Power My Shed kits are off-grid. Solar panels charge the battery; the inverter powers your devices. You get full independence from the house electrical system and no extension cords.
Will this comply with my HOA?
Our kits use flexible, low-profile panels and removable mounting. There are no permanent structural fixtures like large ground-mounted arrays. Many customers in HOA neighborhoods use our kits without issues. We recommend checking your covenants and, if needed, sharing our HOA-friendly page with your board.
How do I choose the right kit size?
Micro is for LED lights and phone charging. Small adds fans and similar loads. Medium supports 12V fridges, laptops, and coffee makers. Large handles power tools and small appliances. Extra Large is for heavy or extended use. Start with the level that matches your current needs; you can scale up later.
Do I need a permit or electrician?
Requirements vary by location. Low-voltage DC (under 50V) often doesn’t require an electrician in many areas. If you want permits or inspections, a local handyman can typically handle the install and compliance. See our Installation page for service-area handymen.
What about warranty and support?
Components (panels, battery, inverter) follow their manufacturers’ warranties. We stand behind the kit as a complete solution—contact us for support with sizing, installation questions, or parts.
